TicketSpice makes it easy to accept donations during your ticketing process. You can choose between adding a Donation Field to your ticketing page, or creating a Donation Ticket Level. Each option works best in different situations, so understanding the difference will help you set up donations effectively.

Donations on TicketSpice

In TicketSpice, you can either create a Donation Ticket Level or add a Donation Field below your ticket block. These options are designed for different use cases.

  • Donation Field: We recommend using this option if you want to give ticket buyers the ability to add a donation on top of their ticket purchase. This option doesn't create a separate ticket. Instead, the donation amount is added to their existing order. This option works well when you want to encourage optional, additional giving during checkout.

  • Donation Ticket Level: We recommend using this option if you want to create a donation-based ticket option. This works well if you want to allow ticket buyers to make a donation without attending your event. This option is also recommended if you want to allow attendees to donate any amount to attend your event. This is perfect for galas, fundraisers, or benefit concerts where guests can choose how much they want to give for their ticket.

Add a Donation Field to Collect Donations

When adding a Donation field, you can allow ticket buyers to quickly add a donation to their existing order. If you want to allow ticket buyers to make a donation without attending your event, we recommend creating a Donation ticket level instead. Click here to learn how to set this up.

  • From the Pages screen, click the pencil icon on the page you want to edit

  • Hover over your page, and click the green + icon where you want to add the field

  • Add the Donations field

Note: If your page includes a Coupon Code field, make sure to place the Donation field below the Coupon Code field. If the Donations field is above the Coupon Code, your discount codes may apply to the donation itself.

  • Customize the Label as desired

  • Toggle the Required field to Yes or No. If you want the Donations field to be optional, make sure to turn this toggle to No.

  • Select to display your donation field as Suggested Amounts or Donor Decides.

    • When Suggested Amounts is suggested, you can add pre-defined donation options that ticket buyers can choose from. Buyers can also add another donation amount they would prefer. You can choose to display your pre-defined donation options as radios or buttons

    • When Donor Decides is suggested, ticket buyers will see an open field, and can enter their desired gift amount

  • Toggle the Ask Donors to Cover the Processing Fee button to Yes to ask your ticket buyers to add an additional contribution to cover your processing fees

    • If enabled, add your fee

    • Customize the fee label and tooltip text as desired

    • Toggle the Require Fee to Yes to require all buyers to contribute this additional amount

    • Toggle Enabled Fee by Default to make the fee optional, but automatically include this fee in the donation total unless the buyer chooses to opt out

  • Click Done

  • Click Save Now in the upper-right corner of your page to save your changes. Click Publish to publish these changes to your live page

Pro Tip: If you're using the setting to pass on fees to buyers, we recommend turning off the option to ask donors to cover processing fees, as you are already passing on the donation fees to the buyer.

FAQs

Am I charged fees if someone donates?

For the Donation Field, there are no TicketSpice platform fees for a ticket buyer's donation. Standard credit card processing fees apply based on the total transaction amount, including any donations.

For the Donation Ticket Level, each donation is charged the standard $0.99/ticket platform fee, plus standard processing fees.

Will a donation ticket level generate a ticket (standard events) or an access code (virtual events)?

By default, a Donation Ticket Level generates a ticket or an access code. If you don't want Donation Ticket holders to receive event access, we recommend adjusting your Scanning App settings so their tickets cannot be successfully scanned, or restricting virtual content so these ticket holders cannot access your event.

Can I set up recurring donations on TicketSpice?

No, attendees cannot set up recurring donations on a TicketSpice page. If you'd like to offer recurring donations, our sister product, GivingFuel, is designed specifically for fundraising and includes the option for donors to set up recurring donations. Click here to learn more about GivingFuel.

Can I set up my ticket funds to go to one bank account, and my ticket buyer's donations to go to another bank account?

No. All money that is collected on a single page is transferred to the same bank account. If you have one page that offers paid tickets and a donation field, all funds will go to the same bank account. If you want all Donations to go to a separate bank account, we recommend setting up a new TicketSpice page, and adding a different payment processor under a different bank account to this page.

Are donations collected through my TicketSpice page(s) automatically recorded as tax deductible?

Yes, donations given through the Donation ticket level and Donation field are automatically set as tax deductible. There is no way to adjust this setting for the Donation field.

Does TicketSpice create a year End Statement for the donations I collect through TicketSpice?

Yes, TicketSpice has a feature to automatically generate year-end statements for donations given through TicketSpice. Click here to learn how to use this feature.
