Written by Maddy

Global coupons are a powerful way to offer special pricing, encourage ticket purchases, and reward specific groups across all your TicketSpice pages.

In TicketSpice, global coupons can be used on every ticketing page in your account. You can also set usage limits and expiration dates on your global coupons.

Pro Tip: There are multiple types of coupons you can set up in TicketSpice.

  • Coupons set up in the Page Builder apply to the specific TicketSpice page where you create the coupon.

  • Global Coupons are valid across all TicketSpice pages in your account, allowing attendees to use them on any event page you've set up

Create a Global Coupon

In TicketSpice, you can create coupons that apply to every TicketSpice page on your account. If you want to create a coupon that only applies to a specific page, you can also create standard coupons.

  • From the top menu bar, hover over the Reports tab

  • Select Global Coupons from the dropdown

  • Select Add Coupon in the top right corner

Note: Coupon codes are not case sensitive. Coupons can include numbers, letters or characters.

  • Customize your coupon

    • Description: Add a descriptor that will quickly and easily identify what your coupon code is for. This is for internal use and reference only. For example: Member Discount

    • Code: Type the coupon code that ticket buyers will enter at checkout. For example. For example: membersrule123

    • Discount: Set the discount and currency for your coupon. This can be either a dollar amount or percentage. For example, you can create a $5 or 15% coupon

    • Per Ticket/Per Order: Choose whether the discount should apply to each ticket or to the entire order

      • Per Ticket: The discount applies to each ticket. Buyers purchasing multiple tickets will receive the discount on every ticket. This discount will only apply to tickets in the order, not merchandise or other add-ons

      • Per Order: The discount applies to the entire order. Buyers will receive the same discount amount, no matter how many tickets they purchase. This discount will apply to the entire order, including tickets, merchandise, and any other financial options on the page

    • Usage Limit

      • Per Order Coupons: If you selected to apply the discount per order, enter the number of times the coupon can be used. If this field remains blank, it can be used an unlimited number of times

      • Per Ticket Coupons: If you selected to apply the discount per ticket, add the maximum number of tickets per order that can receive this discount. Then set the maximum number of orders you want this code to be applied to. If these fields are blank, the code can be used an unlimited number of times

    • Expiration Date (optional) - Set an expiration date and time for your coupon code. If someone tries to use a coupon code after it has expired, they will see an error message

    • Ticket Discount Occurrence (available when using the per ticket discount): Select which ticket receives a discount. For example, apply the discount to every second ticket to create a BOGO offer

  • Click the Save icon to save your coupon

Pro Tip: For Per Order discounts, the usage limit controls how many total orders can use the coupon.

For Per Ticket discounts, you can set a limit on how many tickets per order can receive the discount, as well as how many orders can use the coupon overall. In Additional Settings, you can also choose which tickets will receive a discount. For example, you can create a BOGO offer by applying a 100% discount to the second ticket in an order.

Manage Your Global Coupons

You can view and manage your global coupons at any point. Here is how to manage global coupons in TicketSpice.

  • From the top menu bar, hover over the Reports tab

  • Select Global Coupons from the dropdown

  • Find your Global Coupon

Pro Tip: You can locate a global coupon by searching its description or code. You can also filter your global coupons to show only active or expired coupons.

  • Manage your Coupon as desired

    • Click the pencil icon to edit the global coupon

    • Click the trash can icon to delete the global coupon

    • Click Download Coupons to download a list of all your global coupons

Note: Once a global coupon has been redeemed, you can no longer delete the coupon from TicketSpice.

If a global coupon has already been used and you want to prevent it from being used again, we recommend setting this coupon's expiration date to a past date.

Attendee Experience

When an attendee goes to your ticketing page, they can enter their coupon in the Coupon Code field. If their coupon is invalid, it will show them an Invalid Code message.

If their code is valid, the coupon will automatically be applied to their order.

FAQs

Are coupons case-sensitive?

Coupon codes are not case sensitive. If you enter a code using uppercase letters, the system will automatically convert them to lowercase.

Can I track who uses my coupons?

Yes, you can use Reports to track who uses your coupons. If you would like to see a summary of how many times a coupon has been used, we recommend using a Coupons Report. If you would like to see the specific orders who have used your coupon, we recommend using an Order Data Report.

If I make a global coupon, can I later revert it back to a traditional coupon?

No. Once a coupon has been turned into a global coupon, you cannot revert the coupon back into a traditional coupon.

If you do not want a specific coupon to be valid across all pages in your account, we recommend setting the expiration date to a day in the past so ticket buyers can no longer use this coupon moving forward.

Where can a customer use a global coupon?

On TicketSpice, global coupons can be successfully used on every TicketSpice page on your account. Ticket buyers apply global coupons in the Coupon Code field on your page.

Why do I need to select a currency for a global coupon?

Global Coupons can only be used on pages that process in the same currency. For example, a global coupon created in USD is only valid for TicketSpice pages processing in USD. If you have pages in different currencies, we recommend creating separate coupons for each currency you'd like to support.

What time zone is used for a global coupon's expiration date and time?

The expiration time is based on the time zone set in your account’s Organizational Details. You can view or update this time zone in your account settings.

  • From the Pages screen, hover over the Gear icon

  • Select Organization Details

  • Click Edit Settings

  • In the Time Zone field, update the time zone as desired

  • Click Save

Why isn’t my coupon applying to my attendee's order, or why isn't my coupon discounting the correct amount?

There are several reasons why your coupon may not be applying as expected. Below are some common causes to help troubleshoot your coupon:

  • You haven't added any tickets or other paid options to your order: If you see an error that your coupon does not apply, it may be because no tickets or other paid items have been added to your order. TicketSpice requires at least one ticket or other financial option to be selected before a discount can be applied. Be sure to add at least one ticket or paid item to your order before entering your coupon code.

  • Your coupon isn't saved correctly: If you see an "Invalid Code" error, you might not have saved your coupon correctly. After creating a coupon, you must click the save icon to save your coupon. If you are seeing an invalid code error, we recommend going to the Coupons field and confirming that your coupon is saved correctly in TicketSpice

  • Your coupon code field is positioned above the fields you want to discount: TicketSpice only applies discounts to fields that appear above the coupon code field on your page. If a financial field is placed below the coupon field, it won't be affected by the discount. To fix this, we recommend moving your coupon code field below any fields you want to target with a discount

  • The coupon has reached its usage limit: If your coupon code has a maximum number of uses, the coupon will no longer be valid once that limit is reached. If you want to allow an attendee to use a coupon after the usage limit has been reached, we recommend increasing the usage limit

Why am I seeing an error when I try to create a coupon or global coupon? I am seeing the error "Coupon code is a global product coupon and cannot be assigned to a form" or "Code already exists on page XXXXXX."

A common reason for this error is that the coupon code you're trying to use has already been assigned to a global coupon or this coupon already in use on another page.

In TicketSpice, every coupon code that is valid on a single page must be unique. Here is what this means:

  • If a code is being used for a global coupon, this code cannot be reused as a standard coupon

  • If a coupon code is already in use for a standard coupon, this code cannot be used for a global coupon

If you experience this error, we recommend changing your coupon code to something unique to save your coupon.

Can a ticket buyer use my TicketSpice global coupon on a RegFox or RedPodium page?

Global coupons are managed separately in TicketSpice, RegFox, and RedPodium. This means that a global coupon created in TicketSpice will only apply to your TicketSpice pages. This coupon won't carry over to RegFox or RedPodium.

If you would like the same coupon to apply to your RegFox or RedPodium pages, we recommend going to your RegFox or RedPodium account, and creating the same global coupon in your RegFox and/or RedPodium account.
