Our new Card Swiper feature makes it easier than ever to accept secure, in-person payments. Using the NYC1 card readers, you have full tap, dip, and swipe support, allowing you to process contactless cards, chip cards, magnetic stripe cards, and digital wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Customers can simply tap, insert, or swipe their card on the reader, or pay using their preferred mobile wallet. The card reader connects seamlessly to your mobile device via Bluetooth, allowing the two to communicate securely throughout the transaction. This new feature gives you faster checkouts, more payment flexibility, and a smooth experience for both staff and customers.

Pro Tip: This feature is only available for customers using Webconnex Payments. If you are currently using a third-party payment processor and would like to use the NYC1 card reader on the Box Office App, we recommend adding a new Webconnex Payments processor, and switching your pages to this processor. Click here to learn how to add Webconnex Payments to your account.

Before you can process payments with a NYC1 card reader, your Webconnex Payments account must be fully verified. If your payment processor is only partially active, you will not be able to accept payments using the NYC1 card reader.

Note: To use the NYC1 card reader, your device must have specific parameters.

  • You must be running iOS 17 or newer to use the NYC1 card reader

  • The device you are paired to must be set with a password lock

  • You must update the TicketSpice Box Office app to the newest released version

  • If you are connecting the card reader to a personal device, you must disable Apple Pay from your personal device. This will prevent issues with fund transfers

Warning: This feature is currently feature locked and available to a limited group of customers. If you're part of that group, reach out to our team to have it enabled in your account. If not, get excited because this feature will be available to all customers soon!

To use this feature, your ticketing page must be connected to the payment processor listed on the order form you submitted. If you are now using a different payment processor, fill out this form to reassign the payment processor.

Connect Your Card Reader to the Box Office

To process transactions, you must set up Bluetooth pairing between the NYC1 card reader and your iOS device. Here is how to connect your card reader to the Box Office.

Pro Tip: Before pairing and connecting your card reader, the card reader must be charged. To do this, connect the NYC1 card reader to a power source using the supplied USB-C cable, and let the battery charge for at least 1.5 hours. This ensures that the card reader will have sufficient charge to pair and process transactions successfully.

Note: After pairing your devices, your devices are connected and can successfully process transactions. These devices will remain connected even if you end a session, or you swipe up to exit the Box Office App.

Your card reader will become disconnected in the following situations, requiring you to re-connect the card reader

  • You end a session AND exit the Box Office App

  • You delete or update the Box Office app

  • On your iOS device, turn on Bluetooth

  • Open the Box Office App

  • Tap the hamburger icon in the top left corner

  • Tap Beta Card Readers

  • Tap Webconnex Payments

  • Tap Connect a Reader at the bottom of the screen

  • Tap Allow to let Box Office find Bluetooth devices

  • Select the NYC1 reader you want to connect

    • Select from a list: To select from a list, tap "Nearby Readers" at the top of the screen. From there, select the card reader you want to use. You can recognize card readers by the serial number, which is shown on the back of the reader and in the list

    • Scan a Barcode: To use barcode scanning, select "Scan Barcode." From there, allow the POS app to use the camera of your mobile device. Then you can point the camera of your mobile device at the barcode on the back of the card reader to connect the reader

  • Tap Pair to confirm that you want to pair the device

  • On the side of the NYC1 card reader, press the power button two times

  • If a Done button appears, tap that button

Note: You can only process payments through one NYC1 card reader at a time in the Box Office.

For the most reliable connection, we strongly recommend pairing only one card reader to your device. This helps prevent connectivity issues and ensures smoother transactions.

Unpair a Card Reader

To unpair your card reader, first disconnect it from the Box Office app. Then, remove the reader from your iOS device’s Bluetooth settings and reset the NYC1 to complete the unpairing process.

  • From the Box Office App, tap the hamburger icon in the top left corner

  • Tap Beta Card Readers

  • Tap the information icon next to the Webconnex Payments reader

  • Tap the reader you want to unpair

  • Tap Disconnect near the bottom of the screen

  • On your iOS device, go to the Bluetooth settings

  • Tap the information icon on the reader

  • Tap Forget this Device

  • After forgetting the device, reset the NYC1 device. To do this, hold the side button on the device for 10 seconds until you hear a beep

Check and Manage Your Card Reader's Battery Level

When not plugged into a power source, the card reader operates on its rechargeable battery. Because Bluetooth remains active to maintain connectivity, the reader does not fully power off while in use. For this reason, it’s important to regularly monitor the battery level to ensure uninterrupted transactions.

Note: To measure the most accurate battery level, the card reader must not be connected to a power source.

View the Battery Charge on the Box Office App

  • On the Box Office, tap the hamburger menu in the top left corner

  • Tap Beta Card Readers

  • Tap Webconnex Payments

  • Tap Devices

  • From the select, tap the NYC1 reader to see its details, including the battery charge level. Battery percentage is also displayed under the serial number

View the Battery Charge on the Card Reader

  • To view the battery charge on the card reader, press the power button on the side of the card reader

  • Check the LEDs. Each green LED represents 25% of the battery capacity. For example, if two of the four LEDs are on and green, the card reader has 50% charge left

Pro Tip: To charge your NYC1 card reader, always use the USB-C cable supplied by TicketSpice and a 5V DC, 1A charger to recharge the battery. You must use a 5V DC, 1A charger to recharge the battery. Other power adaptors will not work and will cause damage to the device.

Process a Transaction

  • To process a new transaction, add your items in the Box Office

  • Select pay with card

  • When the card reader image appears, have the customer tap, insert, or swipe their card or digital wallet

  • Once the payment is accepted, enter the attendee’s name and email address to send a confirmation email, or tap Skip to continue without sending one
