Pre-Select or Pre-Populate Ticket Levels, Dates, and Time Slots Using the URL

Create a pre-fill URL where you can pass information from the URL into fields in your ticketing page

Written by Ashley

TicketSpice lets you customize a page URL to pre-select specific ticket dates, time slots, or ticket quantities for the buyer. You can also use a customized URL to pass hidden information into your reports. This article explains how to create and use these pre-fill URLs.

Pro Tip: If you want to trigger actions when someone uses a specific link, we generally recommend using Tracking Links, which are easier to set up and manage.

We only recommend using a pre-fill URL when you need to preselect a ticket date, time slot, or ticket quantity, since Tracking Links cannot target these fields.

Pre-Select a Ticket Date on a Date-Based Page

You can create a custom URL that automatically selects a specific date when a ticket buyer opens your date-based page. This helps direct ticket buyers to the correct event date without requiring them to select it manually.

  • Go to your TicketSpice published page

  • Locate your TicketSpice page URL

  • Add ?tickets.date= to the end of the URL

  • Immediately after ?tickets.date=, enter the date you want to select in MM/DD/YYYY format

  • Save the URL

Pro Tip: You can use multiple pre-fill options in the same URL. For example, you can automatically select both a date and a time slot.

After adding the first pre-fill option, add an &, followed by the next pre-fill option.

For example, to select 12/29/2026 at 8:00 AM, add the following to the end of your page URL: ?tickets.date=12/29/2026&tickets.timeslot=08:00

Pre-Select a Ticket Time Slot on a Date-Based Page

You can create a custom URL that pre-selects a specific time slot when a ticket buyer visits your date-based page. This directs them to the intended time slot without requiring them to choose it manually.

  • Go to your TicketSpice published page

  • Locate your TicketSpice page URL

  • Add ?tickets.timeslot= to the end of the URL

  • Immediately after ?tickets.timeslot=, enter the time slot you want to automatically select using the 24-hour HH:MM format

  • Save the URL

Note: When adding a time slot to your pre-fill URL, do not include AM or PM. Instead, enter the time using 24 hour time format (also know as military time). For example, enter 13:00 for a 1PM time slot.

Pass Hidden Data into Your Page

If you'd like to have data pass from the URL to your reports without the ticket buyer seeing it, you can do so with a hidden field.

  • From the Pages screen, click the pencil icon under the page that you want to edit

  • On your ticketing page, click the + icon

  • Select the Text Field option

  • Label the field Source

  • Turn Required to Off

  • Click Advanced Options, and toggle the Invisible field to Yes (with this option, the field will be hidden on the live page, so your attendees don't see it)

  • Click Done

  • Click the pencil button on the same text field

  • Click Advanced Options, and note the Reference Key on the field (this reference key will be needed later)

  • Click Done

  • Click Save Now in the upper-right corner of your page to save your changes. Click Publish to publish these changes to your live page

  • Click View Published Page to go to your live page

  • Locate your TicketSpice page URL

  • Add ?registrants. to the end of the URL

  • Add the Reference Key you found earlier (in this example, the Reference Key is source)

  • Add an "=" followed by the value you would like to be added to the text field (in this example, we added VIP)

  • Save the URL

Trigger an Action With Your Pre-Fill URL

You can also trigger an action when an attendee uses a pre-fill URL. This option only works if you use a pre-fill URL that passes on hidden data. This will not work if you automatically select a ticket date or time slot.

  • From the Pages screen, click the pencil icon under the page that you want to edit

  • Click the Actions tab on your edit page

  • Click Create Your First Action if you are creating your first action, or click the + icon if you have already created an action

  • On the first box on the left-hand side, select the Source text field you created

  • Select Value is Exactly, and enter the value you added to your pre-fill URL

  • On the right-hand side, add the action that you would like to trigger

  • Click Save Action

FAQs

How many custom URLs can I create?

You can create as many custom URLs as needed.

Can I use symbols in a pre-fill URL?

We recommend avoiding symbols in pre-fill URLs because they may prevent the URL from working correctly. For example, avoid using an email address as the value because it contains symbols such as @ and the period in .com.

Can I edit the reference name?

The reference name for the field is set to be whatever the field is labeled the first time you hit Done. It cannot be changed after the initial save because it's used as an identifier for exports.

The reference name cannot be edited after the field is created. The reference name by default will be whatever label you gave the field at the time it was first saved.

If the field hasn't collected any data and you'd like to change its reference name, you can delete the field and create a new one. When setting up the new field, enter the desired reference name in the Label field and click Done. After saving, you can update the field’s label to something different. The original reference name will remain unchanged even if the label is edited later.

Note: If your field has already collected data but you want to change its reference name, do not delete the field. This will delete all data from previous ticket buyers. Instead, we recommend hiding the existing field and creating a new one with the updated reference name. Click here to learn how to hide your fields in TicketSpice.

Note: Creating a new field will result in two columns in your reports. One column will show data from ticket buyers who submitted an order before the change. The second column will display data from ticket buyers who submitted an order after the new field was added.
